Academy Prerequisites

Basic Requirements

  • Students must be 21 years of age at the start of Special Function Officer Block
  • Pass a background investigation
  • High School Diploma or GED

POST Requirements

These requirements are set by the Utah POST agency. Please check their requirements before proceeding further.

**Current picture ID is required.

Entrance Exam Components:

  • Mathematics
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Grammar
  • Incident Report Writing

This test must be passed with at least 70% in all areas. (For more info on the NPOST, click here)

The results are emailed to you approximately two (2) weeks from the test date.

The Special Function Officer block requires an Entrance Exam.  It is required that you take the Entrance Exam prior to turning in your POST application.  Those registering for the Law Enforcement Officer block will need to provide a copy of SFO certification, and will be required to take the LEO Entrance Exam if attendance of SFO has been longer than 6 months.  Please contact the POST Academy at 435-652-7916, to make an appointment to take the exam.

Physical Testing

You must pass the entrance/exit physical tests.

Insurance

POST does not provide insurance benefits to students attending the Satellite Academies. Students are expected to provide their own insurance protection for injuries that may occur while participating in any basic training program.

Academic Requirements

Students will be required to maintain a high academic standard through frequent tests and quizzes. Failure to meet the minimum academic requirements will result in expulsion from the Academy.
